Flight Line - Choir Testifies - Bluey's Health Screen - Challenge Grows, More Needed

The Friday Finish – September 27, 2024

Exciting Day on the Flight Line!

Civil Air Patrol Cadets from Red Bird Cadet Squadron KY-801 and Lake Cumberland Cadet Squadron KY-357 joined forces for a joint mission Saturday at the Lake Cumberland Air Show in Somerset, Kentucky. The Red Bird 801st provided security on the flight line for aircraft on static display while our dedicated Senior Members managed traffic control.

It was also an opportunity for cadets to learn about some of the aircraft they secured, and share their knowledge with spectators coming to the event. Despite the scorching heat, our cadets had an incredible time, fully immersed in all things aerospace!

Cardinal Choir Testifies in Georgia

Twenty-one (21) Red Bird Christian School students sacrificed their weekend to make a 5-hour trek to Cartersville, Georgia to lead worship services at Friendship Baptist Church. Some of the group making the trip made a stop last April when the Cardinal Singers toured through Georgia, but Pastor Jim Huston wanted to have the choir back on a Sunday. On Sunday, the congregation heard students testify how they are growing in faith, and were blessed with the usual variety of choral music plus a special dulcimer medley that is a favorite in all concerts led by Mark and Nate Smallwood.

If your church is interested in hosting the Cardinal Singers or the RBCS Choir, contact Mark or Nate Smallwood at the school.”

Bluey Gets A Health Screening

The nursing students from Berea College were prepped to do health screenings at Red Bird Christian School Thursday morning, but one “student” didn’t tip the scales very far. A pre-school boy wasn’t sure he wanted to cooperate with being weighed and measured and reading eye charts, but his Bluey toy “stepped” on the scales first to let him know he could do it, too!

The partnership with Berea College Department of Nursing will continue this fall with two different groups of students doing more screenings, a health fair and other health education events. The Red Bird communities benefit greatly from the health professional groups that volunteer time and travel to bridge the gap with special health outreach.

Contact Colleen Sturgill, Community Health Coordinator, or Tracy Nolan, Community Outreach Director if you’re interested in volunteering or providing support for health outreach events.

Homecoming Challenge Response Grows – More Needed

Gifts continue to come in support of Red Bird Christian School through the 2024

Homecoming Challenge. The total received by Thursday is $54,457 which is over half of the needed $100,000. We are aware of another $15,000 pledged to be delivered so we’d like to encourage all to make plans to give and invite others to join you as we secure the tuition and general expense needs for our school during this first semester of learning.
