Run, Bump, Jump - "You feel safe" - Students create media - Homecoming speakers - Bible Trivia

The Friday Finish – August 30, 2024

Run, Bump, Jump, Spike and Strike

They ran through the creek and the heat; bumped, set and spiked in gyms away from home; and will take to the pitch on a new field down the Red Bird River. All of Red Bird Christian School’s fall sports are at the start of their competition schedule. The Lady Cardinals Volleyball team began play at Lynn Camp last week while Red Bird Cross Country was among the teams running at the new Pineville Independent cross country course. Boys Soccer is scheduled for its first kick of the season at Oneida Baptist Institute today.

Six seniors are leading the way for a varsity roster of fifteen for Girls Volleyball, but the underclass and middle school players bring game experience due to the active elementary program at Red Bird. The Lady Cardinals have 13 varsity matches scheduled and will host the regional play for the All-A tournament.

Red Bird Cross Country now has eight elementary runners that accompany the 10 middle school and varsity athletes at open and invitational meets this fall. Four cross country meets were released on the initial schedule in addition to the regional championships for elementary, middle school, and varsity coming in October.

Three matches are firm on the Red Bird Boys Soccer varsity schedule for the 15 roster players that includes six girls. Additional varsity and junior varsity games are being negotiated.

“You feel safe and comfortable”

Kentucky Homeplace was back at Red Bird Mission on Tuesday helping people living with diabetes order shoes that will mediate circulatory issues through proper support. Kim Smith, Kentucky Homeplace Community Health Worker, scheduled appointments for eight people to be measured and properly fitted by a Certified Specialist from Durable Medical Equipment at the Diabetic Shoe Clinic at Red Bird Mission.

One community member attending the clinic this week said, "The people that come do the program are very professional. The shoes we get to pick out; they have a large variety. It’s not always been that way.

They make you feel safe and comfortable. It’s an overall really, really good experience!”

Students Creating Media

Tate Adams, a full-time volunteer teaching Media Arts at Red Bird Christian School, brings over 30 years of practical experience that includes video production at nearby WYMT-TV and an obvious passion for media arts to the STEAM program. His eyes light up, and there’s a feeling of purpose when he begins talking about the expected outcomes for RBCS Media Arts students.

“By the time they leave here, they’re going to be able to set up a shoot for a commercial interview. I’ll teach basic computer animation and advanced editing so we can put things like special effects into videos.”

The first project for students has been to take responsibility of gathering information and updating the slide show for the hallway monitor that is the information source for students, faculty and student families. The weekly, sometimes daily, task will be to create content to feature the latest school sports information, athletes of the week, students of the month, chapel memory Bible verses, the school statement of faith, events, and senior class student spotlights.

Tate has produced a promotional video for the Red Bird Civil Air Patrol Squadron as a model for his students’ future projects. Plans are that students will create promotional videos that can be posted and sent out to educate others about Red Bird programs and the need for partnerships.

Students will also learn how to create contracts and will research real world costs to learn what it actually costs to produce a commercial. They will gain skills that will give them a better understanding of how to run a small scale media business.

Tate said,

“I just want them to be ready to be competitive at a global scale and to face challenges. I want them to be able to sell a commercial!”

Homecoming Speakers and Schedules

Plans are shaping up for the Red Bird School Alumni Association Homecoming weekend October 10-12, 2024. Speakers have been engaged for the events and special emphasis is being given to the 40th Anniversary of the graduation of the Class of 1984, the first class to graduate from the “new” building on the Queendale Campus.

Bible Trivia Night at The Cardinal Café

Three teams competed in a game of Bible Trivia at The Cardinal Café Wednesday night. After a heated battle of Bible knowledge, The Café team came out on top with the win! It was great to see our young people know so much about the Bible and have such a passion for Christ.
